Serena is a 10 year-old Paso Fino mare.  She was never handled or touched growing up other than when she and 11 of her family were rescued from their home.  There was a flood and the horses had to be swum out of their home.  It wasn’t much of a home. The horses were neglected badly and the farm was horribly dilapidated. The barn was never cleaned, the fences never fixed, so they had small areas to live around the fetid mess in the barn.

I have had Serena since July 1st, 2009.  She had so many issues due to type of handling she did have and her experiences during the flood. The horses were roped, dragged and whipped to get them out of the flood.  THen they were put in a tipping table hoof trimming setup shortly thereafter to get her feet done.  She has a bucket of fears and mistrust as a result of her only experience with people.  She has slowly coming along, very slowly, with lots of patience and love.  It will take years to have her trust and accept all that humans are about.   I am writing her story. It will be a part of a book in the coming years.  She has her forever home. We have had so many wonderful breakthroughs with many more to come.

Her journey continues
