Cherokee was an appaloosa I owned for several years. I sold him and bought him back after I saw he was being neglected. While he was owned by the other person he foundered and contracted heaves. He had his last 2 years with me. This is the story of how his disease and his eventual death prompted me to turn to natural hoof health and care and also helped change my perspective on intuitive communication and thoughts and concepts about the afterlife.

The last story in this book is a true story I wrote about my horse Cherokee. It is a wonderful book, filled with heart warming stories of human-horse relationships.

You may not remember me, but Jan, Heather and I stayed in your trailer one long weekend a few years ago – we were known as the Saddle Bags. Our grandson’s girlfriend gave me a book for Xmas entitled ‘horses with a Mission’. When I got to the last article I was surprised to see your name. Needless to say, I read it with great interest and compassion. I, too, had to have my beautiful Palomino ‘Sabre’ put down in 2002 at his tender age of 14. He had been plagued with navicular for years and I had managed to keep him comfortable with special shoes and pads for sometime, however, when I had the last x-rays done, they said it had deteriorated to the point where he would have to go on pain relievers, which I wasn’t prepared to do.

The memories I have of the ‘horse’ years in Manitoba will stay with me always and Sabre will always remain very special to me.
