Barb’s Bio
Barb Fenwick
I had my first pony at six years old, and now at 60 my horses are still my best friends and my most important teachers. I have ridden, trained and owned several breeds of horses, including gaited horses. Over the years I have studied traditional and natural horsemanship from many sources. I have taught here at the ranch and around Manitoba for several years as well as in Quebec, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
Equine behaviour and intuitive studies have been my emphasis over the last several years. I have spent years training or retraining horses and learning what the horse thinks and feels and how to apply that to helping horse and rider communicate and enjoy each other in harmony.
My Freedom With Horses is about helping you and your horse connect on all levels. Then we go someplace and do things with that connection that allow you and your horse to enjoy your time together. You connect from the heart, lead with harmonic movements, softness and feeling. Then ride in pleasure and joy, experiencing a new freedom. I continue to study the ways of gentle horsemen and women, seeking always deeper knowledge of the body and soul of the horse. Some of my most important mentors are Klaus Hempfling, Carolyn Resnick, Mark Rashid, Linda Kohanov and Marta Williams.
I am also a certified coach, judge and representative in N. America for The Horse Agility Club .
I teach agility and put on mini-competitions here at my ranch and travel to other locations to present Horse Agility. Horse Agility is an organization that promotes gentle in-hand and liberty training which promotes building a true bond with your horse. All work is done in hand. Each month new obstacle courses are set to work on and compete either at a club event or through videotaping and competing through the internet on YouTube. Click on the club link above to find out more.
Also in the last 6 years I have studied and practiced natural Hoofcare with my horses. I offer lessons in my BF Hoof Health which incorporates barefoot trimming and hoofcare and learning how to offer your horse a healthy, natural environment and lifestyle.
I share my life and our ranch with my husband George, our dog Tucker, a cat named Elvis, and three horse companions –Spirit my 13-year-old Spotted Tennessee Walking horse gelding, Zoie Girl, 6 yr old Missouri Foxtrotter mare and Serena, my rescued Paso Fino, 10-year-old mare. We also have a boarding horse long term, Foxie, whom I owned then sold to a good friend. They are my constant teachers. We have 3 sons, 3 daughters in law & 2 incredible grandchildren – granddaughter Miya and grandson Cooper.
Our ranch, Seasons Ranch is host to guests who come to learn, relax, trail ride and just BE.
This page is dedicated to the memory of a very special dog. Patsy, who is only with us in spirit now. She lived 14 years as our friend and constant companion. She lived life fully, happily and was the cutest, sweetest dog we have ever known. He left his old body in July, 2011. We miss you with all our heart Patsy, thanks for finding your way into our lives. Love Mom & Dad
